Cape ivy is apparently under consideration for listing but not yet listed.
The RFP contains 3 options: eradication, containment and BMPs for materials sources. The last is definitely not a match with Mendocino County because of the need for 75% matching funds from private sources.
Eradication is a reasonable goal for all A-rated species of concern in the MCWMA. These are all well under control in Mendocino County, thanks to the vigilance of Robin Breckenridge of CDFA and Ray Harrie of Mendocino County Agriculture. Of the B-rated species, purple starthistle, Canada thistle, oblonge spurge and Japanese knotweed are also at an eradicable stage. Containment is the only feasible option for all other noxious weeds on the list.
The RFP is rather ambiguous about the requirements for
impact to USFS land.
Task 2: (due March 1) Tara
will obtain additional information to ascertain our prospects for this
RFP.
ACTION ITEM 4: Approval of Coordinator's Priorities as modified.
Due to additional demands on the coordinator's time to
research the funding opporunity, several other scheduled activities
will be cancelled, including attendance at the chainsaw training and
Big River weed removal event.
ACTION ITEM 5: Next Planning Committee Meeting set for Thursday, March 9, 2006, 3-5PM at Jackson Demonstration State Forest Learning Center.
