WMA Funding for 2009

The Mendocino Coast and Inland Mendocino Cooperative Weed Management Areas (WMA) will be receiving a portion of the state's general fund allocation for weed management in calendar year 2009.

Unlike previous years, a set amount of funding, $16,758, is guaranteed to each county. Because the Mendocino Coast WMA covers part of Sonoma County, it is also eligible for some of that county's guaranteed allocation. Both work plans focus on weeds that are NOT widely distributed in the counties, such as distaff thistle and gorse, with the goal of eradication or containment.

Another pot of funding, $250,000 in all, is distributed in a competitive process administered by the California Department of Food and Agriculture. Mendocino County has submitted a proposal for about $50,000 to help landowners survey and initiate management of invasive weeds that appear in the bulldozer lines created to control the many fires that have occurred so far this season.

The full text and budget spreadsheets of the Mendocino County work plans and proposals are available on the Inland Mendocino Cooperative WMA website, imcwma.org . To download, click here to open the Documents Directory CDFA Funding 2008 folder.
