Arundo donax
Arundo donax is not widespread in Inland Mendocino, but occurs in some dense patches near the Russian River and its tributaries. This species was encouraged for erosion control at a time when the river was periodically "flushed" by large releases from the dam at Lake Mendocino. Extensive control efforts have greatly reduced the amount of Arundo in this watershed. Native vegetation, such as willows, provide excellent erosion control while not damaging fish habitat.
