Summary

This module presents an introduction to the collection of native plant propagules. It is appropriate for property owners and managers interested in introducing or increasing locally-native plants on either rural or urban properties. No botanical expertise is assumed. It is recommended but not required that you work through the previous modules:

  2. Plant Identification

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this module, a student should be able to:
  1. understand and define what is meant by the term "native plant";
  2. clearly understand their own personal and/or professional motivation(s) for using native plants;
  3. list various methods of propagation;
  4. understand the various avenues and resources for acquiring native plant propagules;
  5. be able to list, acquire and/or manufacture and use collecting eqiupment and materials;
  6. appreciate the necessity of developing good habits in record-keeping;
  7. describe the information, capabilities and resources needed to complete a native plant propagule collecting project;
  8. identify sources where the needed information, capabilities and resources may be acquired.

Recommended Materials and Equipment

The course may be presented with or without computers. The materials marked with a * are recommended for a computer-based presentation.
  1. * Personal computer, access to computer laboratory or computers in classroom with internet access;
